Natural habitats are on Serbia's riverbanks where it can grow up to 45 metres, within the Nordic countries typically 20-25 metres high.
Grow at moderate speeds, reaching just 3-5 metres in 15 years.
. The cones are reddish, 4-7 cm long, heavily attached to the branches.
Best grows in damp, loose soil, a well-lit place. If there is not enough light, the trees grow extremely slowly and in a lanky state.
Serbian spruce is resistant to the island.
Sowing:
Soak the seeds for 12 hours in warm water. Then sow in a pot or stratify (the higher the germination power level, the stronger the plants).
Mix with wet vermiculite or sterile sand, put in an airtight bag. This stratification should take 2-3 months.
Stratification only accelerates seed sprouting and germination, but seeds can be sown without additional stratification immediately after soaking. This will take longer for plants to germinate.
Cover with glass or clear film, remove it once the seeds have started to sprout.
Lasts periodically, but with measure, keep the soil only moderately moist. Excessive moisture damages seedlings and their surface and root system development.
Germination within 3-8 weeks.
Keep the seedlings partly in the shade for the first year. The soil should be only slightly wet.
Only plants of the second year shall be planted in a permanent place (wet soaked soil is not suitable).
