Sprouts are thick, young dense-haired, greenish-brown in autumn, almost naked, mature orange-brown or maroon, shiny.
Thorns are plenty, 2.5 cm to 5.5 cm long, straight, shiny, chestnut brown. Leaves are egg-shaped, 4-12 cm long, sharp-topped and rounded or heart-shaped, with 4-5 pairs of shallow lobes, hard, dark yellow-green on top, with tight hairs, fluffy on the veins at the bottom.
Blossomed, red-glinted, hairy blossoms. Wreath white, 20 mm to 23 mm wide. Fruit bright or dark red, almost round, 1,1-1,8 cm long, flour, with yellowish flesh and 5 dice.
Blossomed in May, the fruit matures in September and drops quickly.
Hawthorn grows best in fertile, heavy, limey sandclay conditions, but there are modest soils.
