🌼 Meadow Daisy – the classic beauty of natural meadows and gardens. Perennial flower seeds.

The meadow daisy is one of the most recognizable flowers of Europe’s natural meadows. Daisies bring a light, calm, natural and slightly romantic feeling to the garden – white petals and a sunny yellow center that fits beautifully in country gardens as well as natural-style gardens.
This daisy is a hardy perennial plant that is easy to grow from seed. It’s especially valuable in natural gardens because it attracts bees, butterflies and other pollinators. A simple flower, but one with an important role both in gardens and in natural meadows.

🌿 Characteristics of the Meadow Daisy
• Perennial herbaceous plant from the daisy family
• Height: 30–70 cm
• Flowering time: June – August
• White flowers with a bright yellow center
• Excellent nectar and pollen source for pollinators
• Suitable for meadow gardens, flower beds, pots and wild-style plantings
• Hardy and easy-care plant

🌼 An interesting structure of the daisy flower
A daisy flower is actually not a single flower but a whole cluster of many tiny flowers. The yellow center consists of hundreds of small tubular flowers, each of which can produce seeds. The white “petals” are actually individual ray flowers, and together they create the elegant, calm and classic beauty daisies bring wherever they grow.
These yellow centers attract bees, bumblebees and other pollinators because they contain both nectar and pollen. That’s why daisies play an important role in feeding insects and supporting biodiversity in any environment. They grow especially well in places where meadows are regularly mown and not heavily fertilized. Because of this, daisies are often seen as an indicator of a healthy meadow.

🌿 History of the Meadow Daisy
Daisies have grown across Europe for a very long time – they are a natural part of meadows and grasslands. They became especially widespread when traditional hay meadows and grazing lands developed across Europe.
This flower is also a symbol of summer in many European cultures. In Latvia, daisies are often used in Midsummer and solstice flower crowns, symbolizing the sun, light and the peak of nature’s abundance. In other European countries, daisies are also associated with summer, simplicity and natural beauty.

🌿 Healing properties and teas from meadow daisies
Daisies have long been used in folk medicine as a gentle medicinal herb.
Tea made from the flowers can:
• help support digestion
• calm mild inflammatory processes in the body
• help with mild cold symptoms
• be used in skin care

Daisy tea is mild and gentle, so in some traditional cultures it has also been given to children. However, as with all medicinal plants, it should be used in moderation.

🌱 Sowing and growing daisies from seeds

Northern Europe
Sowing time: March – April for seedlings or May directly in the garden bed.

• sow seeds in light, well-draining substrate
• scatter seeds on the soil surface and gently press them in
• soil should stay slightly moist but not wet
• germination temperature: 18–22°C
• seeds usually germinate in about 10–20 days

Southern Europe
Sowing time: February – March or in autumn.

In warmer climates young plants benefit from morning sun and a little shade in the afternoon.

🌿 Growing seedlings from meadow daisy seeds

• Daisy seedlings are pricked out when 2 true leaves appear. If seedlings become long and weak they need more light. Before planting outdoors the seedlings should be gradually hardened off. Mature plants are planted 30–40 cm apart. In the first year the meadow daisy usually forms a leaf rosette and flowers fully the following season, but in favorable conditions and if the seeds have gone through a cold period they may also bloom in the first year.

🌞 Growing daisies in the garden

The meadow daisy is a hardy, beautiful and easy-care plant.

Northern Europe
• grows best in full sun
• prefers light, well-drained soil
• soil that is too wet can damage roots and may cause rot

Southern Europe
• grows well in sun or light partial shade
• in hot climates mulching helps keep soil moisture stable

🪴 Growing daisies in pots

Daisies can also be successfully grown in pots on balconies or terraces.

• pot diameter ideally at least 20–30 cm
• drainage holes are necessary
• use light, well-drained soil
• the plant needs a sunny location

Potted daisies are easy to move around and beautifully decorate balconies, terraces or special events with a natural meadow atmosphere.
