🍉 Crimson Sweet Watermelon Seeds

Sweet, crisp and hardy variety suitable for northern climates.

🌿 Description

“Crimson Sweet” is a well-known watermelon variety with light green rind and dark green stripes. It is prized for its exceptionally sweet taste, crisp red flesh, and few seeds.
This high-yielding and disease-resistant watermelon thrives even in cooler northern regions, making it perfect for home gardeners who want great flavour and reliable results.

The Crimson Sweet watermelon shows strong resistance to Anthracnose and Fusarium wilt and produces large, round fruits weighing around 7–11 kg.

🌱 Growing Instructions

  1. Sowing: Sow 2 seeds per pot, about 2–3 cm deep, approximately one month before transplanting outdoors.

  2. Seedling selection: After germination, keep the strongest seedling.

  3. Hardening: Gradually acclimatise seedlings before planting outdoors.

  4. Planting: Transplant when the soil is warm and all risk of frost has passed.

  5. Spacing: 60–90 cm between plants, 180–250 cm between rows.

  6. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist during early growth; reduce watering as fruits ripen to enhance sweetness.

  7. Mulching: Cover the soil around plants with organic mulch (straw, compost, or black garden fabric) to retain moisture, suppress weeds and protect fruits from contact with the soil.

  8. Harvesting: Fruits are ripe when the rind becomes dull and the underside turns yellow.

🌞 Additional Information

  • “Crimson Sweet” is an open-pollinated watermelon variety developed in the 1960s in the USA.

  • The vines can reach up to 3 meters in length, so plants need space to spread.

  • Suitable for outdoor gardens and greenhouses in cooler regions.

  • Well-adapted to northern and Baltic climates.
