“Baron von Solemacher” is a popular German-bred wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca) known for its abundant and long-lasting harvest, exceptional aroma, and deliciously sweet, small berries. This variety is highly valued both as a productive fruit plant and as a charming ornamental addition to any garden.

Seed pack contains 5 seeds.

🌿 Origin and History

The “Baron von Solemacher” variety was developed in early 20th-century Germany, based on selective breeding of wild strawberries. The goal was to create a compact, remontant (everbearing) plant with a higher yield and stronger fragrance. It quickly gained popularity throughout Europe for its ability to produce fruit continuously through summer without runners. Today, it remains one of the most resilient and aromatic wild strawberry varieties.

🌱 Growing and Care

  • Soil: Prefers medium-heavy, fertile soil that retains moisture but isn’t waterlogged. Also grows well in partial shade.

  • Light: Sunny or lightly shaded position – full sun ensures richer yields.

  • Watering: Regular and consistent watering; avoid both dryness and waterlogging.

  • Fertilization: Organic fertilizers during growth and fruiting periods are ideal.

  • Hardiness: Perennial, frost-resistant down to approximately –20 °C.

🌸 Plant and Fruits

  • Height: 15–20 cm, compact and dense bush.

  • Blooming: May to September.

  • Fruits: Small (1–2 cm), deep red, highly aromatic, with a classic wild strawberry flavor – sweet with a gentle acidity.

  • Fruiting: Continuous production without runners, so the plant’s energy is devoted entirely to fruit formation.

🌼 Medicinal Properties

Wild strawberries are not only delicious but also healing plants. They are rich in vitamin C, organic acids, iron, and antioxidants, which strengthen immunity and support metabolism.

Medicinal uses include:

  • Leaves – fresh or dried, used for teas and infusions to support metabolism and reduce inflammation.

  • Berries – fresh or dried, used for vitamin deficiencies, anemia, and digestive health.

  • Roots – used in teas and decoctions for liver and digestive disorders.

🌺 Advantages

  • Long-lasting fruiting without runners.

  • Hardy and easy to grow.

  • Resistant to cold and common diseases.

  • Exceptional aroma and sweetness.

  • Suitable for beds, borders, pots, and balconies.
