Marigolds. Calendula officinalis. Seeds of medicinal plants and spices.

A beautiful and modest and bright plant in every garden.

Marigold petals are rich in carotene, as well as essential oils, organic acids, the bitter substance calendulin found in the leaves, saponins, tannins.
The seeds contain vegetable oil, alkaloids. The plant has pronounced phytoncide properties. It has an antitumor effect. Marigolds are native to Asia and Southern Europe, and are traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Unani medical systems.

The petals are mainly used in food. Marigold petal powder is used in cooking to color dough. The powder, or fresh blended petals, are dissolved in hot oil, added to various dough products, or marigold petals can be boiled in milk and then the milk added to the dough. Marigolds have antibacterial properties, which allows products to be stored much longer.

In some cultures, marigold petal powder is used to color butter and cheese, especially butter, which then acquires a beautiful shade and aroma.

Marigolds are used as a territory purifier after fires. They are sown in places of burned houses and barns. It is believed that marigolds cleanse the place where the misfortune occurred and give energy to restart.

Flowers or just petals are used in flower salads with watercress, cornflowers, cucumbers, and for decorating dishes. Marigold flowers frozen in ice cubes are added to cocktails. Marigolds, marigold tea, tincture, flower juice, tablets are widely used in medicine. They are used to treat ulcers, gastritis, colitis and wounds.

Marigolds promote digestion. Teas are used as a diaphoretic and expectorant, for colds, for cramps, headaches and dizziness. Calendula leaves or juice are used externally for boils, eczema, and also to eradicate freckles and warts. Calendula has antiseptic, bactericidal, and pain-relieving effects. Calendula preparations lower blood pressure and promote bile secretion. It is one of the oldest and most popular medicinal plants in folk medicine.

Harvesting - Collect blooming flowers or just the petals. Use fresh or dried. Store dried or frozen for the winter. The more often you collect flowers, the more you can get during the growing season.

Sow in a permanent place from April to May at a distance of 30 cm.

Feels good and grows in poor soils, can be used to separate the garden from the lawn, because marigolds are good plants, whose leaves cover the soil, so that weeds do not grow on them. A great plant to plant between vegetables in the garden. Improves the soil well and looks decorative. Marigolds also feel good growing in pots on terraces and balconies. Easy to grow, not demanding on moisture.
