Sweet William. Student carnations. Barbed carnation. Dianthus barbatus. Seeds.
These carnations are beautiful, colorful, modest and bright. They are also memories from my grandmother's garden and childhood.
Carnations can bloom in the first year of sowing if they are sown early enough. If student carnations are sown in March in a heated greenhouse or in seedling boxes at home, then the seedlings are dug out and in mid-May the student carnation seedlings are placed in the garden. If all the flowers of the student carnation are not cut off, then they self-sow well, but then it is more difficult to control the compactness of the plant.
If student carnations are grown as usual - in the first year they form only a rosette of leaves, which overwinters, and blooms the next year.
The carnation bushes are so dense that they ensure that weeds practically do not grow between them.
The color of the flowers of the student carnation can be very diverse - from white to dark wine red...
Sowing: Seeds are sown in February or July - August.
If the student carnations are provided with good growing conditions - their care takes little time. The soil must be moisture-permeable, because the root system of the student carnations suffers greatly from excess moisture and the plants can die.
