De Cayenne spicy peppers. Capsicum annuum L.
A fast-growing compact beautiful bush, makes all summer.
Fruit long, slightly flattened, spicy in flavour, paints from green to red.
Mid-February and the second half are the right time to sow the sharp peppers. These plants grow longer than tomatoes. Sowing later, the seedlings will grow handsome and bushy, but before they mature the fruit.
By the time the peppers sown in the second half of February sprout (7 to 14 days later), the lights will have become enough to keep the seedlings out.
Chili peppers tolerate the lack of light better than tomatoes and cucumbers.
De Cayenne peppers are also grown in pots as ornamental plants. They can be trimmed and overwintered in a cool, bright spot in the autumn before the frost.
