Blue-green fescue. Festuca glauca. Seeds.
Height: 65cm.
Flowers: small, yellowish, arranged in sparse panicles.
Flowering time: VI-VII
Leaves: evergreen, bluish-gray-green.
Height and growth: a dense, medium-lived herbaceous perennial.
Growing conditions: in full sun in poor, well-drained dry soil, the soil layer can be only 6-10cm.
Decorative: decoratively excellent stable, effective evergreen leaf perennial.
Planting distance: 30cm (11 per 1m²).
Care:
Weeding: in the first year after planting, loosening the soil is very important to destroy possible perennial weeds. In the future, plantings should be weeded at least once a month. It is recommended to mulch perennial plantings.
Fertilization: perennials are given 30 – 50 g/m² of complete fertilizer in the spring. A layer of peat or compost mulch will act as an organic fertilizer, but if possible, you can additionally fertilize with well-rotted manure. I would not recommend over-fertilizing perennials with nitrogen, as this can cause the plant to grow unnaturally large and bushy, and the perennial loses its normal appearance and resilience, becomes more susceptible to diseases, and loses its winter hardiness.
Pruning: it is recommended to cut back herbaceous perennials as winter approaches.
Watering: perennials should be watered in dry and sunny weather. It is preferable to water in the morning or evening, not in the hot midday sun, as much of the moisture evaporates. After watering, it is recommended to loosen the soil.
Wintering: Perennials that die off aboveground can be covered with quickly decaying organic material, tree leaves. For perennials planted under trees, a layer of fallen leaves is sufficient. When mulched, they create a favorable environment for the growth and development of perennials.
New plantings must be covered, especially those planted in autumn, as well as plants placed in elevated places exposed to the sun and wind on various rock piles and terraces.
